I decided to have Shredded Wheat this morning – not the preformed sort of sweetened little squares that are called Shreddies – but the bite sized shredded wheat.  As I poured boiling water over them and then drained the excess water away, the aroma reminded me so much of my dad.  He used to get the big bowl sized shredded wheat ready for us this way when we were kids.

A tinge of longing rose with the aroma.

  1. My dad was another big fan of shredded wheat. And Muffets. I’m not sure if my kids have ever experienced them.

  2. I love Shredded wheat, especially the large biscuits. Lots of memories.

My kids called them bails of hay. They were the cows. Mooo!!

  4. That’s EXACTLY how I like them. I usually get them round, (Muffets) but still with the hot water treatment before milk and (once sugar) now Splenda!

  5. This is usually my lunch with a sprinkling of crushed flax on top.

My dad too, initiated me to the wonders of wheat….shredded that is…..complete with the hot water treatment.
